There are a few concrete ways to get involved with Friends of Wildwood, depending on your interests and time.
Volunteer Cleaning & Restoration Days
We organize volunteer days for cleaning and restoration work on the grounds — including recent work cleaning the graves of the 192 Civil War veterans buried in Wildwood’s Civil War Circle. Friends can also train with cemetery staff, free of charge, to become certified in monument repair.
Research & Document Preservation
Wildwood Cemetery has thousands of historical documents and photographs still being preserved and digitized. Friends can train with cemetery staff to become certified in document handling.
Promotion & Fundraising
Friends can help promote the cemetery’s events and activities, and assist in securing monetary support or grants on its behalf.
What to Know Before You Sign Up
Cleaning and restoration days are open to volunteers of all ages, though we ask that anyone under 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Work happens outdoors on uneven ground, so wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and bring water and sun protection. All cleaning solutions, brushes, and training are provided — you don’t need to bring your own equipment or prior experience.
Volunteer events are sometimes photographed for our website and social media; see our Privacy Policy if you’d prefer not to be photographed.
Membership & Volunteer Interest Form
Fill out the form below to let us know how you’d like to get involved. Once you submit it, a Friends of Wildwood volunteer coordinator will reach out using your preferred contact method to confirm details and next steps — typically within a few days. You can also just come to a posted volunteer day on our Events page without filling this out first.
